Foster & Adoptive Ministries
Jesus welcomed and loved the weak and the vulnerable, and we want to share in this passion. By teaming up with Covenant Care Adoption, Chosen for Life, Lydia's Place and other organizations by building foster care teams to support foster families in our church and community, we seek to support these children and their families with the love of Jesus.
We have a couple of ways to serve local college students who are homeless and/or have aged out of foster care in our partnership with Lydia’s Place, a local non-profit.
Athens Tech Clothing Closet - We are collecting gently used professional or business wear. Students will “shop” for free clothes for interviews, jobs or just personal needs. Please drop items at the Administration Building (J Building) at Athens Tech or at the home of Heather Watson. If possible, have items clean, not wrinkled, and on hangers as many of the students who need them will not have access to irons, etc.
Furniture and Furnishings - Lydia’s Place is also partnering with Habitat for Humanity in the renovation of a quadriplex which will be used to house homeless students at low or no cost to them. In the next few months, furniture and furnishings will be needed so if you have any gently used items of the sort, keep this need in mind. More info to come.
Foster Care Support Teams-We have many families in our community who foster children in their homes. To help come along those families, we have a few Foster Care Support Teams in place in our church who help provide a weekly meal, pray for and offer other special care to these families and the children that they’re serving.
Interested in helping in any of these ways? Contact the church office.
Upcoming Opportunity - Lydia’s Place Baskets
Many young adults in our area age out of foster care or experience homelessness. They then enter secondary education without money to buy basic items to live on their own or start the school year. These Provisions of Hope Baskets help welcome a student who has overcome these obstacles to attend school at campuses in Georgia.
Things to include in your basket:
-feminine hygiene for girls
-dorm-size sheets (twin XL)
-grocery gift cards (Walmart, Target, Kroger)
A full basket is valued at $200. Consider joining together with your community group, a few friends or making a monetary donation to support this.
For more information, visit the Lydia’s Place website or contact Heather Watson (email@example.com).
Collection dates are July 22 through August 16
